Move over Stella, Sally has her wine groove back!

As anyone who knows me well may have realized, I have been in a rut when it comes to my love of all things wine. Over the past year and a half, there have been some things in my life that presented me with new challenges, and it was as if these obstacles had just sucked the joy right out of me. I tried new wines and worked on new wine projects, but it just wasn’t there any longer. The excitement and joy I had experienced were gone. ... Read full review

Overview:   During a recent trip to Colorado to attend my nephew’s wedding, I had the privilege of discovering a little gem of a winery/orchard in Olathe, Colorado called Mountain View Winery. This place is open year-round and has been in the family for three generations. Mountain View not only has wine tasting but also allows for fruit and vegetable picking in season and conducts tours.

The Place:  From the moment you pull into Mountain View Winery, you get the feeling that there is a lot going on here. There are a multitude of buildings and homemade ... Read full review

As anyone who has been a caregiver would know, it is an intense labor of love. While being rewarding in a way that is difficult to explain to someone who has never experienced it, there is also a very restricting and draining nature to the whole thing. Imagine the joy when friends stepped up to the plate and offered to “Grandma Sit” so we could attend a nephew’s wedding in Western Colorado this June.

After emerging from our first day through the desert land surrounding Green River, Utah I had come to the conclusion that I ... Read full review

For three days in a row this week we have had spring-like weather with temperatures near 60 degrees and lots of sunshine. My husband informed me that spring had sprung and it was high time we went out on Saturday and blew out the winter cobwebs. This translates to “Time for Wine Tasting.”

We woke up on Saturday to more winter-like weather. The skies were gray and Friday’s blue had given way to rain-filled clouds. Determined to have a Saturday afternoon of grape delight, we drug out the rain coats and set out at noon to rinse ... Read full review

There is a reason that Money Magazine mentions Cordiano Winery in a 2012 article on Best Places to Travel and Where to go. This fabulous winery sits atop the rolling hills above the San Pasqual Valley in Escondido, California and unlike some of the other Southern California wineries I have visited, this place maintains a “wow” factor by providing you the experience of being in a magical place surrounded by the friendliest wine staff I have ever encountered. Fall is a time of year that makes me proud to be an Idahoan. Sunny, warm days draped in gorgeous shades of gold and red, blue skies, and temperatures in the high 60’s. Wednesday August 28, 2013 started out hot. At 5 am it was nearly 80 degrees and overcast. So what’s a girl to do after all the laundry is finished on a hot, humid hump day at summer's end? Well this girl decided to grab her sweetheart and explore a winery located just 14 miles from home. The winery was started by Charles Pintler, and since we had attended several wedding receptions at the winery over the past few years, I decided it was time to do an official tasting. After all, if the local brides were choosing it as a ... Read full review

What do caves, Kavemen and Shangri-la have in common? Why Kuna of course. Kuna, Idaho is home to the Kuna caves, a local sport team called Kuna Kavemen and Indian Creek Winery. As stated on the winery's website, “Indian Creek Winery is...a true Shangri-la located only 30 minutes outside of Boise.”

Three Wines Score 90+ in Wine Spectator Magazine

Having lived in Idaho for almost eighteen years, I have learned that Idaho state doesn’t often get International recognition for anything. Think about it, when you hear the name Idaho, what comes to mind? I bet you said potatoes. Or on a slight change, perhaps you thought of garnets. Hardly news worthy. Since Idaho is still considered an "emerging" wine region, I figured it would be a long time before Idaho wineries would start receiving high ratings for their red wines from major wine publications such as ... Hat Ranch Winery was the highlight of our weekend local wine tour. The winery owner was doing the tasting and was very informative and friendly. I am not a fan of white wine but actually found their Chardonnay to be so pleasing that I purchased a bottle. The Cabernet that we sampled was fabulous. We did not purchase any as it would not be available for a few months. We will return to purchase a case. On a side note, the owner was serving samples of gumbo in honor of Mardi gras. It was simply a quaint little winery with a friendly, knowledgeable owner who made you feel like family and the wine was very good.
