The Ghosts of Napa: Inside Wine Country’s Pre-Prohibition Estates

Before Prohibition took effect in 1920, there were roughly 700 wineries in operation in California, many of them dating back to the late 1800s. But when it was repealed in 1933, only about 40 of the wineries had managed to survive the double hit of Prohibition and the Depression.
