The thin-skinned Dolcetto produces a well structured, light to medium-bodied wine with bright fruit flavors and significant peppery spiciness. The grape is widely planted in the Piedmont region of Italy, and similar to Beaujolais Nouveau from Burgundy, is best within two to three years of bottling.

Although the best Dolcetto’s continue to originate from Italy, Santa Barbara County and Sonoma County’s Russian River Valley have had some limited success with Dolcetto.
