Every Halloween weekend we head down to Old Town Cottonwood which is about an hour and a half drive from Phoenix, AZ. The Tavern Group owns most of the town and they sure did things right. The best place for lodging is The Tavern Hotel or the Bocce Penthouse. We will be staying at the Tavern Penthouse this October so I'll let you know how that goes. The strip is full of fine dining, wineries and bars. We love Nics for dinner and Crema Kraft Kitchen for breakfast! The hotel offers a sip and stay package where they give you coupons for breakfast, dinner and a complimentary drink. If you are lucky enough to be there on Halloween day the streets are full of kids getting candy from the proprietors on the strip. You can always head down the road and do the Verde Valley Train ride which is beautiful. The Southwest Wine Center is right up the road in Clarkdale and is worth a visit. You should call for a tour but they have a great tasting room as well. It's a tad cooler up there and the town just makes you smile.
