The Red Hills AVA, located to the southwest of Clear Lake, is a relatively new grape growing area with few vineyards until the 1990s. The AVA sit at the base of Mount Konocti and is comprised of rolling hills ranging in altitude from 1400 to 3000 feet. Large diurnal temperature swings up to 50 degrees are common.
